Rep. Mike Gallagher says China-based TikTok like ‘digital fentanyl’ for users, calls for total ban

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.) bluntly called for a ban on TikTok, describing it as “digital fentanyl” because it’s allegedly just as addictive as the deadly drug and comes from the communist Chinese.

TikTok is one of the most popular apps across America and the globe. It’s infamous for videos and those seeking some sort of fame, however brief. It’s also notorious as an alleged national security threat by the Chinese.

Gallagher, who is on the House Intel Committee, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) have joined forces to investigate the social media app. They are planning to introduce legislation to ban it due to security concerns.

“Why is it so important that we push TikTok out of the United States once and for all?” Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked the congressman in an interview Tuesday.

“Well, it’s digital fentanyl in the sense that it’s highly addictive, it’s also therefore deadly. For all the reasons you laid out in your monologue. Our youth are at risk of increased isolation, suicide, depression, anxiety… those numbers are through the roof,” Gallagher responded.

“And finally, like fentanyl, the precursors date back to China, right? TikTok is owned by ByteDance. ByteDance is effectively controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. That means not only can they track your location, collect your keystrokes, but they could also censor your news and increasingly people use TikTok as a news source,” he continued.

And in the end, it all boils down to China pitting us against each other using politics, news, and entertainment to destroy us from within.

“The final thing that’s really disgusting here Laura, is the fact that they’re weaponizing the swamp against us. TikTok is hiring an army of former members of Congress, senators, Democrats, Republicans, staffers, spending $7 million last year in order to lobby on their behalf, exploiting the loopholes in our lobbying laws which are very weak right now. So, this is a danger to our kids. It’s a national security threat and ultimately we don’t want the Chinese Communist Party to control the most powerful media company in America,” Gallagher asserted.

“Who is lobbying for them? A former congressman? I’m not aware of who these people are,” Ingraham stated.

“I believe Sen. Trent Lott is lobbying for them,” Gallagher revealed to a shocked Ingraham.

“What?! Senator Lott, what are you doing?” she admonished.

“There’s 31 former staffers from members of Congress. And some former members of the House whose names elude me at present,” he added.

The Fox News host went on to recall that Pompeo and Trump warned about this very scenario previously.

“Pompeo was on to this. Trump was onto this early on and they knew we should not be doing business with them. But congressman, even more alarming is the White House isn’t concerned about using the Chinese spyware. In fact, they use it to push their own propaganda,” Ingraham pointed out and then played a clip showing it.

“So congressman, they’re using TikTok influencers at the White House to promote their political message. Completely oblivious to all the harms and threats that this app and this social media actually does to our country and our kids,” she stated.

“This sends precisely the wrong message. You know, when you have high-level members of the White House just trying to get clicks on TikTok, it’s absolutely the wrong direction we need to be going in. I’m worried they’re going to strike a deal. Right now, there’s a CFIUS review ongoing whereby they may claim they have some safeguards where data in America can be protected,” Gallagher remarked.

Ingraham pointed out the obvious that China is not to be trusted on anything anymore.

“How can you trust China on anything? They have hundreds of thousands of people in reeducation camps tonight. Look at what they’re doing to people who try to protest the COVID lockdowns,” Ingraham commented.

“That’s actually the salient point, right? I mean look at what they’re doing to their own citizens. Imagine what they would do to foreign countries if given the chance, right? If they took Taiwan by force for example, what they would do to Taipei would make Xinjiang look like Club Med. And they found a way to actually cross our borders without doing it by force, right?” Gallagher asserted.

“Well, they’re killing a hundred thousand of us every year with fentanyl. They’re already killing us. They don’t have to cross the border. Their drugs are crossing the border,” Ingraham explained.

Gallagher wrapped it up by laying out what China is actually doing and how the hatred of America is being spread within our own borders.

“I think what they’re really trying to do is launch an ideological war designed to turn Americans against America. Designed to propagate this narrative that America is an evil, racist hellscape. Their so-called wolf warrior diplomats are all over American social media companies spreading propaganda, attacking the United States,” Gallagher concluded.

“Congressman, you nailed it before. They pay well. They pay really well and you can buy loyalty to China,” Ingraham surmised.
