Unlike U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, it appears newly appointed Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo actually follows the science.

During a press conference alongside Gov. Ron DeSantis this Wednesday in Brevard County, Ladapo debunked the dubious narrative touted by the Biden administration that forcing schoolchildren to mask up is somehow beneficial for them.

“In Florida, we’re going to stay close to the data, and we’re going to let you know how we feel about the data. And the data do not support any clinical benefit for children in schools with mask mandates. The highest quality data find no evidence of benefit, and we’re going to stick with that, because that’s what the data show,” he said.

Listen from the 31:05 mark below:

He acknowledged that his data differs from what’s peddled on TV by Democrats and their media allies but stressed that the data being used by the left lacks quality.

“I want you guys to step back for a moment from what you hear sort of constantly on TV … in terms of the data that supports mask use in kids and mandates for masking kids. It is very weak, and that’s a fact,” he said.

“There’s a substantial gap between the quality of the data out there … supporting masking kids yielding any benefit for kids whatsoever,” he added.

Indeed, this may explain why the United States’ mask policy for schoolchildren is the strictest across the world.

As reported by Fox News in August, most countries in Europe, for instance, are not mandating masks for schoolchildren.

“[M]any European and developed countries have decided against recommending masks for young children in schools or other public settings,” according to Fox News.

The list of countries/territories includes the European Union, the Netherlands, England, Iceland, Norway, Scotland, Switzerland, Denmark, etc.

Continuing his remarks Wednesday, Ladapo announced that in Florida, he’d like parents to be the ones to decide whether or not to mask their children.

“As a parent hearing these stories of other parents and what they’re going through and seeing other parents around the country, these are impossible situations parents are being put in. Putting a mask, something on the face of your child is — that’s a parent’s decision. It’s not a school’s decision. It’s not a school board’s decision. It’s not a governor’s decision. It’s no one else’s decision except for the parent,” he said.

“And parents are being placed in these impossible situations related to the health of their children. I’m here to help support parents in voicing how they feel their children should sort of present, should be in the world, and I’m going to be here to to help with that, to support that,” the Florida surgeon general added.

The masking of schoolchildren still remains an issue in Florida because of uncooperative school districts that keep violating the governor’s ban on mask mandates for kids. Led by Ladapo, the Florida Department of Health is now seeking to upgrade its emergency mask mandate ban and make it permanent.

“The Florida Department of Health on Friday proposed a long-term rule to try to prevent school mask mandates and give parents more authority to decide whether children who have been exposed to COVID-19 should be able to attend school,” Orlando station WKMG reported last Friday.

“The department published the proposed rule as it tries to fend off a legal challenge from six school districts to an emergency version of the rule issued last month,” the station added.

Challenges to the emergency order have been filed by school boards in Florida’s most left-wing counties, from Miami-Dade to Broward.

Officials in these districts claim they’re following “the science” by forcing schoolchildren and vaccinated teachers to mask up:

The official seen above, Miami-Dade County Public Schools superintendent Alberto Carvalho, has repeatedly shamelessly posted photos to his social media account showing him hobnobbing with others indoors while unmasked.

Look:

Apparently, “the science” has made an exception for him …
