Biden, G7 leaders call for investigation into COVID-19 origins, conducted by discredited WHO

G7 leaders, including President Joe Biden, signed a joint statement Sunday calling for an investigation into the origins of the coronavirus.

While the move appeared to be a positive development and may conceivably turn out that way, critics noted that the G7 leaders specifically called for the discredited World Health Organization to conduct the investigation.

“We … call for a timely, transparent, expert-led, and science-based WHO-convened Phase 2 COVID-19 Origins study including, as recommended by the experts’ report, in China,” the statement reads.

It’s not clear which “experts’ report” the statement references.

What’s known is that the WHO hemorrhaged much of its reputation during the coronavirus pandemic by running interference for the Chinese Communist Party.

From originally downplaying the threat of the coronavirus to excluding and ignoring Taiwan as a favor to the CCP, the organization acted as a servant of China, not the world.

And so for it to be tasked with determining the origins of the virus is laughable, critics allege.

Look:

It’s true, as noted in the tweets above, that the WHO has already conducted investigations into the coronavirus’s origins.

After one such investigation concluded, a WHO “team of scientists” announced in February that it was “most likely” that the virus had originated in animals and then spread to humans. They likewise dismissed the lab leak theory, as reported by NBC News.

Another investigation — or “study,” rather — concluded with the same results.

“The coronavirus is likely to have emerged in bats and spread to another animal before it jumped into the human population, according to a study from the World Health Organization and Chinese scientists,” NBC News reported in late March.

“The 123-page report, which NBC News obtained ahead of its release, also found that it’s ‘extremely unlikely’ that the virus leaked from a lab, a theory that has flourished among China skeptics even though it is based largely on circumstantial evidence.”

Except months later, the lab leak theory is now increasingly looking like the cause of the coronavirus, according to a growing pile of previously ignored evidence.

Even The New York Times, a leftist paper, noted in an extensive report published last November, a couple months before the investigations’ conclusions, that the organization was on thin ice because of its sycophantic behavior toward China.

“Internal documents and interviews with more than 50 public-health officials, scientists and diplomats provide an inside look at how a disempowered World Health Organization, eager to win access and cooperation from China, has struggled to achieve either,” the Times reported.

Instead it became the CCP’s lapdog, and in doing so, jeopardized the world with oodles of false information.

“[T]he health organization pushed misleading and contradictory information about the risk of spread from symptomless carriers. Its experts were slow to accept that the virus could be airborne. Top health officials encouraged travel as usual, advice that was based on politics and economics, not science,” according to the Times.

Why the leaders of the U.S., the U.K. Italy, Germany, Canada, Japan and France are now hellbent on letting the WHO — and thus China by proxy — run the next investigation into the coronavirus’s origins is therefore hard for many to understand.

Biden did admittedly recently request that U.S. intelligence officials conduct their own investigation, but according to Yahoo News, “administration officials have repeatedly pointed to the World Health Organization as the primary vehicle for digging into the lab leak hypothesis.”

So once again everything is being left to the WHO, an organization that critics are 100 confident cannot be trusted.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been reportedly mostly non-combative when dealing with China.

“The Biden administration is putting little public pressure on China to investigate the possibility that COVID-19 escaped from a Wuhan laboratory, despite growing interest in investigating the origins of the pandemic,” Yahoo News reported Wednesday.

“Several Biden administration officials have downplayed the need to push China directly for answers about work its scientists were performing at a virology lab near the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan. Instead, the Biden administration has cited the role of diplomacy in prying loose answers from Chinese authorities — even though the same approach has yielded little access to key facilities and data over the past year.”
