Pompeo: ‘It’s just tragic’ to see Biden admin ‘flip switch’ and reverse Trump policies

Former secretary of state and Fox News contributor Mike Pompeo appeared on “Fox & Friends” Monday and tore into the Biden administration over reversing former President Trump’s border policies.

Pompeo spoke of the false narrative promoted by the president and Democrats that the Trump administration did “America alone” when in fact, it took hard work and the formation of solid relationships to bring Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador all together to make the lives of their citizens better: “I always find it interesting when they talk about the fact that we did America alone, when in fact the deal that we struck to secure our southern border was something we worked hard with the Mexican government, we worked hard with the government in Guatemala and El Salvador and Honduras. We had real relationships with those people. We negotiated. We got to a place that made life better for their people and secured our southern border.”

The former secretary of state called Biden’s moves on the border “tragic” and noted how they are harming numerous states and many, many people in the process: “And to watch them come in and just flip the switch and the tragedy that we now see. … These people are trying to come through Mexico to get into the United States because President Biden greenlighted this. It’s absolutely tragic. And to watch them do this in a unilateral way and make the lives worse for not only people who live in Texas and Arizona and California, but people all across our southern boundary, it’s just tragic.”

Pompeo’s comments come after an unprecedented surge has occurred at our southern border after Biden went about dismantling virtually all of Trump’s policies having to do with the border wall and illegal immigration. There are now in excess of 19,000 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors being housed in the United States and the situation is set to explode with more than 35,000 children expected to cross over.

Pompeo went on to state that through diplomacy and a whole lot of hard work that the Trump administration was able to meet these countries halfway: “It took a lot of work, this was hard work, building those relationships. It’s what good diplomacy does, that’s what our team did. We watched these countries say, “Fine, we’ll help you with your problem with the southern border, but we’ve got to get this right. And you have to, you America, have to do the right things, too.”‘

And being the statesman that Pompeo is he proceeded to speak of negotiations and ensuring American sovereignty: “We did that. We negotiated. We made clear we were going to close the border, people weren’t going to be permitted to come here illegally. And when we did that, we turned off the magnet. The incentives for people to make that terrible trek across Mexico were gone. And then we began to work with these countries to make sure that we handled it well. You can’t just flip the switch on countries around the world. You have to work alongside of them and build partnerships. That’s how we protect American sovereignty.”

Pompeo has previously said that the Biden administration has already surpassed Obama in creating “completely open borders.” He claims that Biden is incentivizing illegal immigrants and empowering coyotes – those who profit from human smuggling across the border.

“It is not humane to create this false set of incentives for these folks to come across and make this arduous travel across their own country, then across Mexico and try to get into the United States of America,” he remarked. “We had these policies right. We worked hard. I worked diligently to convince the Mexican government to allow us to have these asylum seekers remain in Mexico.”

“It was working, and now this administration has abandoned it,” Pompeo declared.

It’s not just Trump’s and Pompeo’s approach to the border that is being dismantled. The Biden administration is undoing just about everything that has a conservative bent to it in foreign policy.

According to NBC News: “In a sharp rebuke to Trump-era policies, Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday formally scrapped a blueprint championed by his predecessor to limit U.S. promotion of human rights abroad to causes favored by conservatives like religious freedom and property matters while dismissing reproductive and LGBTQ rights.”

Referencing Pompeo’s Commission on Unalienable Rights, Blinken called its findings “unbalanced,” and announced they would be ignored going forward.

Pompeo is also very concerned about Biden’s approach to Iran and China. “I’m a little less focused on the process, but the outcomes, and you have seen them already move to appease Iran, we’ve seen them take inadequate action in response to the massive hack from China on Microsoft exchange servers,” he commented. “These create incentives for other countries to challenge us and attack us and a strong America, an America that’s not appeasing, is an America that can secure America’s freedoms.”
