A pair of NFL announcers may have given some sports fans another reason to tune out of this season’s games.

Fox broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman sparked outrage with viewers after they appeared to insult the U.S. military by criticizing pregame flyovers at football games. While some social media users were happily surprised that the pair was “woke” enough to make the comments and seemed supportive of the Democratic presidential ticket, others declared that the disrespect was yet another political nail in the league’s coffin.

Buck and Aikman may not have realized that their microphones were on and they were being recorded on Sunday though it seemed like their remarks were delivered in a similar way to their regular commentary. They made the eyebrow-raising comments calling out the pregame flyover as a waste of money ahead of Sunday’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers.

Many social media users, however, thought the comments were being made sarcastically due to the men’s Republican leanings.

Defector media posted the clip on social media and set off a wave of reactions, some applauding the broadcasters while many, like military veterans’ charity Code of Vets, slammed the men and the NFL.

“That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover,” Aikman, a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, said in the recording.

“That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work!” Buck chimed in.

“That stuff ain’t happening with Kamala-Biden ticket. I’ll tell you that right now, partner,” Aikman added, referring to Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, though he interestingly named them in reverse order.

The comments drew a virtual thumbs-up from liberals who were impressed.

But many Twitter users were outraged.

But some questioned whether Aikman and Buck were actually mocking the flyovers or “being sarcastic.”

As far as the flyovers themselves, despite the seeming expense of the undertaking, they are not just a gesture to inspire patriotism at sports games and events. The costs are built in to military budgets as part of the training program for pilots who clock the air time in as part of their instruction.
