There he goes again …

Fresh off of siding with Democrats in their investigation and impeachment of Republican President Donald Trump earlier this year, Sen. Mitt Romney, aka “Judas,” is now siding against his GOP colleagues in the Senate in their investigation of Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden’s youngest son, Hunter.

During a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing Wednesday, the senator complained that the committee’s investigation into Hunter isn’t legitimate.

But the Democrats’ bungled investigations into the president were?

Listen to his remarks below:

“I know the committee has undertaken two major investigations [that have] political implications and one, of course, is the, I’ll call it the Biden/Burisma investigation, and that, I think, from the outset had the earmarks of a political exercise and I’m fearful that comments made in the media recently have only confirmed that perspective,” he said.

“Obviously, it’s the provenance of campaigns and political parties, opposition research, the media to carry out political endeavors, to learn about or dust-up one’s opposition, but it’s not the legitimate role of government, or for Congress, or for taxpayer expense to be used in an effort to damage political opponents.”

He added, “And therefore I am pleased that our votes today do not include additional authorizations relating to the, I’ll call it, Biden-Burisma investigation.”

The remarks quickly went viral for several reasons. One, the evidence against Hunter is abundant.

Second, Romney allegedly boasts ties to Burisma:

According to reports, former George W. Bush administration official Joseph Cofer Black joined then-GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign in 2011 as a “special adviser.” Six years later, he joined Burisma’s board of directors.

As of late 2020, Cofer Black reportedly still remains on the board. Hunter meanwhile reportedly stepped down from the board last fall as word of his scurrilous activities began to spread thanks to the president bringing attention to it.

This means that Cofer Black and Hunter had spent two years working together at Burisma:

Biden’s remarks also attracted attention because of apparent hypocrisy.

“Despite Romney’s comments Wednesday, in May, he voted alongside his Republican colleagues on the committee to subpoena Blue Star Strategies – a company connected to Burisma Holdings, as part of the panel’s probe,” Fox News reported.

“Johnson had announced earlier this year his plans to subpoena Blue Star Strategies for records to review potential conflicts of interest in Hunter Biden’s role on the board of Burisma, and whether individuals at the firm improperly used the relationship with former Vice President Joe Biden’s son to ‘influence’ U.S. government agencies.”

So why now, months later, is Romney disputing the legitimacy of the probe?

Regardless, one group of people did appreciate his remarks — namely, Biden’s campaign.

Calling the Hunter probe a “sham,” Romney campaign spokesperson Andrew Bates reportedly said, “Sen. Johnson cannot refute this because he himself has explicitly admitted that Sen. Romney is correct, saying that his charade ‘would certainly help Donald Trump win reelection’ and that it will speak to ‘Vice President Biden’s unfitness for office.’”

“Additional Republican senators have sounded the alarm about this sham, saying that it would play into Russia’s hands. It is disgraceful enough for the chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to dismiss the worst public health crisis in generations and abandon oversight of the failed federal response to the pandemic.”

He added, “But to instead subsidize a foreign influence operation against the sovereignty of our elections with American taxpayer dollars, all in a vain attempt to resuscitate a conspiracy theory that hinges on Sen. Johnson himself being corrupt, is tragic malfeasance.”

But it’s not conspiratorial to note that, one, Burisma has a shady history, two, Hunter had ties with this shady firm, and three, so did his father.

Flashback to 2014.

“Ukrainians sick of corruption revolted. Vice President Joe Biden went to Kiev to help the new government. But then something strange happened,” ABC News journalist Tom Llamas reported last year about the events of 2014.

“Just three weeks later, a Ukrainian natural gas company accused of corruption appoints Hunter Biden … to their board of directors, paying his firm more than a million dollars a year.”

That firm was Burisma, which chose to hire Hunter despite him having just been discharged from the U.S. Navy Reserves months earlier for testing positive for cocaine, and despite him reportedly having no experience.

“He had served on other boards but had no known experience in Ukraine or natural gas,” Llamas added.

Two years later, Biden pressured top Ukrainian officials to fire a prosecutor who’d been investigating Burisma over its shady activities.

Another two years later, Biden openly admitted to having pressured those officials.

Joe Biden: “If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money”

Romney’s GOP colleagues believe all this evidence makes for a case worth investigating. He clearly disagrees, and not shockingly, Biden agrees with him.
