Detroit Police Chief James Craig is pushing back on calls for his resignation from Black Lives Matter activists.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The Story,” Craig was asked by host Martha MacCallum why he’s resisting when there’ve been a number of police chiefs around the country who have stepped down, saying they cannot take it anymore.

“It’s clear to me what’s really going on,” he replied. “It’s not about who the police chief is sitting in the seat — whether the police chief is black, whether he’s white, Asian, male, female. It’s deeper than that. If you talk against this group, you must go. That’s their attitude.”

Craig went so far as to say the local community wants the radical anti-police forces gone.

“I’ve taken a firm stand here in Detroit. I’ve been supported by Detroiters. But let me just say, Detroiters want them gone,” he declared. “And so I’m not leaving. They have to leave.”

“I’ve said it publicly, both locally and nationally, and I’m going to hold my ground,” Craig continued. “Because our men and women who serve deserve much better than this.”

Having spent part of his career in Los Angeles, Craig asked to speak on the ambush of two LA Country Sheriff’s deputies over the weekend.

The chief called the ambush “despicable,” and attributed it to the Black Lives Matter agenda.

“I’m angry about it. A coward who’s part of this whole agenda. That’s what’s going on today,” he said. “We need to call it what it is.”

In Rochester, Police Chief Le’Ron Singletary announced his retirement last week, along with the entire command staff of the department, following that they saw as a lack of support in the wake of the death of Daniel Prude.

As MacCallum noted, Democratic Mayor Lovely Warren, who publicly rebuked the chief, fired Singletary on Monday, before he could retire.

Craig was asked about a Black Lives Matter leader in New York saying that when a black person becomes a cop, they are no longer black.

“That’s ridiculous. I’ve been an African-American male all my life. I started in this business 44 years ago, ten years after the civil unrest in the city of Detroit,” he said. “I’ve been a proud African American, I rose through the ranks and nobody gave me anything. For him to say that, who does he call, who does his family call when they need help? They call the police.”

MacCallum turned her attention to Sen Ed Markey, D-Mass, MacCallum, who is calling for disarming police officers and establishing a nationwide ban on tear gas, rubber and plastic bullets, and beanbag rounds.

Not on did Craig call the plan “ridiculous,” he asked when are we going to start disarming criminals?

“I support law-abiding citizens to be armed, but criminals?” he asked. “So it’s okay to attack officers and people say one thing — these were peaceful protesters. I guess when you throw in Molotov cocktails, railroad spikes, other projectiles, using green lasers. I guess that constitutes being peaceful.”

“We never tried to stop folks from their right to free speech,” Craig added. “We have been dealing with this for in excess of 100 days — six incidents where we had to use force. Because they were either attacking us or they resisted a lawful arrest.”

“Enough is enough.”
