Trump not welcome back in New York City after presidency ends, says de Blasio

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is claiming that President Donald Trump will not be welcome in New York City after his presidency ends.

At a Buzzfeed event on Thursday night, de Blasio went into a truly bizarre rant where he claimed Trump doesn’t understand New York City. He also challenged the president to a debate.

“I challenge you, Donald Trump, to come to New York City, and I will debate you about what’s right for New York City,” de Blasio said.

The mayor continued, “Because he doesn’t understand New York City and when his presidency is over, really soon, he will not be welcome back in New York City!”

President Donald Trump has taken plenty of shots at de Blasio for his controversial leadership in New York City and he renewed those attacks on Thursday.

Referring to cops being attacked with water in NYC, Trump took to Twitter and told de Blasio it was time to “stand up”

“What took place in NYC with water being tossed on NYPD officers was a total disgrace,” Trump tweeted. “It is time for [de Blasio] to STAND UP for those who protect our lives and serve us all so well.”

He added, “What took place was completely unacceptable, and will not be tolerated. Bill de Blasio should act immediately!”

The mayor has tweeted about the incident and said it is “completely unacceptable.”

“Completely unacceptable. A video from the 28 Precinct shows people interfering in an arrest by throwing water and objects at officers. The NYPD kept New Yorkers safe through the heatwave and last night’s outages. We won’t tolerate this kind of disrespect. NYPD is investigating,” he tweeted.

Bill de Blasio is not exactly a popular mayor and his presidential run has thus far been embarrassing, which is really saying something when he’s running against gaffe-machines like Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

Saying Trump doesn’t understand New York City is maybe one of the most unique and misplaced attacks on the president. Born in Queens, the real estate mogul has been as synonymous with New York City as hot dog stands and Central Park for decades. From his Trump Towers to his stint on “The Apprentice,” Trump has been highly involved in New York City and no matter what you think of the man’s presidency, he could no doubt run that city a million times better than de Blasio has.

Also, saying Trump is not “welcome” in New York City is exactly the reason someone like de Blasio should not hold any public office. This man should not be mayor or president or even an assistant to someone on a school board. The man’s head is so big and he is so confused about the responsibilities of his office that he believes he actually has the right to say who is and isn’t “welcome” in New York City. Considering New York City is special because it is a melting pot of cultures and opinions and lifestyles, saying someone is not “welcome” in the city simply because they disagree with the mayor is about the least New York-thing someone could ever say.
