Donald Trump trashes Bill De Blasio presidential run: ‘the worst mayor in the United States’

President Donald Trump had a message for Bill De Blasio on Thursday following the New York City mayor officially announcing that he is going to run for president.

Before touching down for a fundraiser on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Trump recorded a video message where he called De Blasio “the worst mayor in the United States.”

“I can’t believe it!” Trump said. “I just heard that the worst mayor in the history of New York City, and without question the worst mayor in the United States, is now running for president.”

The New Yorker continued, “It will never happen — I’m pretty good at predicting things like that. I would be very surprised to see him in there for a long period, but it’s just not going to happen.”

Trump then added, “If you like high taxes and if you like crime, you can vote for him, but most people aren’t into that.”

Trump finished the video statement by saying he wishes De Blasio luck, but he thinks the mayor would be better off actually doing his job in New York City.

The president’s video message followed a tweet he sent out earlier on Thursday trashing De Blasio.

“The Dems are getting another beauty to join their group. Bill de Blasio of NYC, considered the worst mayor in the U.S., will supposedly be making an announcement for president today. He is a JOKE, but if you like high taxes & crime, he’s your man. NYC HATES HIM!” Trump tweeted.

Considering Trump has spent his life in New York and is synonymous with New York City, it’s no surprise to see him take a particular interest in De Blasio.

His laid back attitude in his video message shows, however, that Trump knows De Blasio is no real threat. The New York City mayor has had an incredibly embarrassing campaign already, with his unpopularity as mayor making its way front and center in the debate over his qualifications to be president.

Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., has also laid into De Blasio’s interest in being president. He previously labeled De Blasio’s presidential campaign a “PR stunt.”

“Rather than do a PR stunt ‘run’ for President (we all know it’s going nowhere) maybe @NYCMayor should clean up his backyard first,” Trump Jr. tweeted.

Others have been just as unenthusiastic about a De Blasio presidential run.

“The funny thing about Bill de Blasio is: everyone hates him. Everyone. In his own city,” New Yorker and National Review critic at large Kyle Smith tweeted.

He added, “It’s one of the few bipartisan points of agreement: ‘De Blasio is such a weenie.'”

“Maybe Bill De Blasio wants to be president so he doesn’t have to live in New York anymore. Their mayor is just terrible,” tweeted Daily Wire editor in chief Ben Shapiro.

De Blasio tried his best on Thursday to pile on President Trump in comments to reporters, but it just seemed desperate.

“He’s a con man [Trump] and we New Yorkers know a con man when we see one. And I know how to challenge this guy I’ve been watching him his whole born life, his whole adult life and I’ve seen all of his tricks and we’re going go right at him,” said De Blasio.
