‘Chris, I think…’ DNC chair Tom Perez can’t keep Bret Baier’s name straight during Russian collusion beat down

Despite special counsel Robert Mueller’s clear-cut conclusion that there wasn’t evidence to prove that Trump had “coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities,” Democrats still remain unwilling to abandon their Russian collusion delusional narrative.

Included among those who continue to cling desperately to the debunked collusion narrative is Democrat National Committee chair Tom Perez, who Thursday evening repeatedly refused to admit the truth during a discussion on Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier.”

“You have a lot of Democrats who spent a lot of the past 23 months talking about that the president was an agent of Russia,” host Bret Baier rightly noted to Perez.

He then asked whether it’s time for Democrats to admit that Mueller “did not find” collusion.

Listen to the full discussion below, and take note of how many times Perez referred to Baier as Chris:

“Well, I think there’s a distinction between something that may rise to the level of a conspiracy and [something] that can be proven without a reasonable doubt,” Perez replied.

His point was that just because the special counsel couldn’t prove that Trump had colluded with Russian operatives to affect the 2016 election doesn’t mean that he didn’t actually collude.

Baier fired back by reading directly from the report, saying, “It’s not written here, though. It’s not in the black and white here. It says ‘the investigation did not establish that the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.'”

Chris, I think the question you have to ask here — and it’s a different question from the question that Robert Mueller is asking — the question presented here is, is there a pattern of corrupt behavior by this president? Is there a pattern of behavior where the president is putting his own interests ahead of the American people’s interest?” the DNC chair replied.

Mueller spent two years investigating Trump specifically to determine whether there were patterns of corrupt behavior that definitely proved he’d colluded with Russia or attempted to obstruct justice. Released Thursday, his official findings confirmed that no, in fact, there weren’t.

“When you get a call from a foreign adversary that says hey, I got dirt on your opponent, and I want to help you win, what you should do first and foremost is say no, and then call the federal authorities. What we know from the Investigation is that’s not what they did,” Perez continued.

Though Trump’s campaign officials did reportedly speak with various Russian operatives during the election about potentially receiving dirt on then-Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, they never actually accepted any said dirt. The same cannot be said of Clinton or the DNC.

It’s known for a fact that both Perez’s DNC and Clinton paid a shady firm, Fusion GPS, to prepare a dossier of dirt on then-GOP nominee Trump. The firm in turn contracted British spy Christopher Steele to dig up this dirt. Steele in turn then allegedly reached out to his contacts within the Russian government to obtain this dirt. By the transitive property, this means it was Clinton who accepted “dirt on your opponent” from “a foreign adversary.”

Like then-congressman Darrel Issa noted last year, if Steele’s sources were in fact agents of Russia, then Clinton is the one who’s guilty of so-called “collusion.”

The discussion on “Special Report” ended with Baier asking Perez about potential impeachment. Besides again incorrectly referring to the host as Chris (as in Chris Wallace), the DNC chair replied by promising that Democrats plan to continue their so-called “oversight” activities.

These “oversight” activities will presumably include continued kvetching about collusion.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

As stunning as Perez’s continued promotion of the Russian collusion delusion conspiracy theory may seem, it’s actually to be expected, conservative columnist Byron York has argued.

“A lot of Democrats have invested the last two years of their life in believing that there was collusion between Russia to fix the 2016 election. Don’t think they gonna give it up just because of this,” he said Thursday morning on FNC’s “Fox & Friends.”

And amazingly enough, though York made these remarks half a day before Perez’s discussion with Baier, he appeared to already known what the DNC chair (and his peers) would say.

“Immediately people on the left said maybe he couldn’t prove a criminal conspiracy but maybe there was some other sort of conspiracy,” he said. “Or maybe he couldn’t prove to beyond a reasonable doubt but maybe there is evidence that the rest of us can believe. I really think we have already seen and they already tipped their hands that they are going to continue to believe in collusion.”

He was describing the Democrats’ response to Attorney General Bill Barr’s March memo.

Listen to his full statement below:

“If you believed in impeachment before the Mueller report, why would you stop believing in it now?” he added. “You have a lot of the leadership like Nancy Pelosi wanting to move on, these are the more senior people wanting to move on, wanting to focus on the legislative agenda.”

“But you are going to have the investigative committees, the judiciary committee, the intelligence committee investigating this stuff all the way until the next election.”

True.
