Disgraced Avenatti drags Trump into his legal trouble

NEW YORK, NY - MARCH 25: Michael Avenatti, the former lawyer for adult film actress Stormy Daniels' and a fierce critic of President Donald Trump, speaks to the media after being arrested for allegedly trying to extort Nike for $15-$25 million on March 25, 2019 in New York City. The counts against Avenatti are to include conspiracy to transmit interstate communications with intent to extort, conspiracy to commit extortion and more. Disgraced “porn star lawyer” Michael Avenatti, a man whose every previous allegation against President Donald Trump has inevitably blown up in his face, has again lodged spurious allegations against the president. Apparently, he’s an extraordinarily slow learner.

The latest dubious allegations concern charges he himself faces in California for sleazily keeping a client’s $1.6 million settlement check for himself and using it to pay his own personal expenses.

In a statement to Fox News, Avenatti claimed that the client whom he allegedly ripped off, Gregory Barela, is somehow, someway linked to the president. #OrangeManBad.

“We did nothing wrong and were entitled to every dollar received. And of course, [Barela] is represented by a person close to Trump,” he said, the insinuation being that his client’s alleged ties to the president invalidate his allegations that the “porn star lawyer” ripped him off.

Fox notes that after Avenatti received Barela’s settlement money on Jan. 5, 2018, he repeatedly lied to his client to avoid paying him a single dollar, let alone the full $1.6 million.

“Federal prosecutors in California charged that Barela’s settlement ‘called for $1.6 million in settlement money to be paid on January 10, 2018,’ but that instead, Avenatti gave Barela a ‘bogus settlement agreement‘ with a false payment date of March 10, 2018,” the outlet reported.

“According to prosecutors’ affidavit, Avenatti misappropriated his client’s settlement money, in violation not only of federal law but also state ethics requirements, and used it to pay expenses for his coffee business and other ventures.”

He used it to pay for some expenses. Last May CEO David Morris of the wholesale coffee roaster Dillanos Coffee accused Avenatti of never paying him the $160,179 owned for the coffee he’d supplied.

When the fake March 10 deadline in Barela’s case arrived, the “porn star lawyer” continued to trot out excuses. When Barela visited Avenatti’s since-vacated Newport Beach office to seek out answers, the lawyer’s employees, John Arden and Ahmed Ibrahim, tried to shut him up.

“Mr. Barela saw Mr. Arden’s reflection in the glass wall of the conference room and observed Mr. Arden gesturing towards Mr. Ibrahim to stop discussing Mr. Barela’s settlement payment … after which ‘both Mr. Ibrahim and Mr. Arden … actively deceived Mr. Barela by not disclosing that the settlement payment had been received,'” Fox reported, citing court documents.

In emails sent by Barela following the fake headline, he begged Avenatti for the settlement money and warned that he might “need a little help” financially if he wasn’t paid soon.

In response, Avenatti “loaned” him money.

“After several advances of funds from Avenatti, on Oct. 10, 2018, Barela wrote, ‘I was hoping to have an update’ on the settlement funds and ‘get our money.’ He tells Avenatti, ‘I need 8K by Tuesday or I’m in deep sh**,’ and on Oct. 22, he emailed a dire assessment,” Fox reported.

Barela went public about this behavior back in January.

Two months later Avenatti now faces a total of 60 years in prison for both ripping off Barela and also reportedly using fraudulent tax returns to obtain a bank loan. He also faces an additional 47 years in prison for allegedly trying to extort Nike for $20 million.

Altogether, the cocky, braggadocios lawyer faces 107 years in prison, whereas the man he has spent years trying to destroy — President Donald Trump — faces zip zero years behind bars.

The irony is striking. It’s also very deserving of memes.

Look:

The good news for the “creepy porn lawyer” is that his dreams have finally come true.

Recall what he said last year on “The View” when co-host Behar asked him about his sexual fantasies: “[A]ll of my sexual fantasies involve handcuffs.”

Listen:

It looks like dreams do come true after all. Basta!
