Democrats vote against notifying ICE when immigrants fail firearm background checks

Which do Democrats hate more — immigration enforcement or guns? If you guessed guns, you guessed wrong. Despite the left’s nonstop campaign against the Second Amendment, it turns out that they’d rather protect criminal aliens than stop dangerous people from purchasing weapons.

The evidence lies in their rejection last week of an amendment that would’ve required law enforcement officials to be notified if someone trying to buy a weapon were to fail a federal background check.

Proposed by Republican congressman Greg Steube as an addition to the Democrat-written “Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019,” the amendment would’ve also applied to illegals.

“In the case of an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement” officials would be notified, the amendment reads.

Because of this stipulation, Democrats in the House Judiciary Committee scrapped the amendment and passed their bill by itself. H.R. 8 requires that background checks be run prior to any and all sales or transfers of firearms from one entity/person to another entity/person.

“Republicans said they were ready to offer additional amendments when Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., shut off debate around 8 p.m., 10 hours after the hearing began,” Fox News reported, citing the events that transpired in Congress last Wednesday.

“Nadler called the background checks bill long overdue to address a ‘national crisis of gun violence’ that claimed nearly 40,000 lives in 2017. ‘Our country is awash in guns, and we have the shameful death toll to show for it,’ he said.”

But what use is his background checks bill if the authorities aren’t notified when bad people try to buy weapons? What’s telling is that Steube’s amendment was based on a bill that the Democrats had proposed years earlier.

“The language of the Amendment came from the text of a bill from the 115th Congress, The Unlawful Gun Buyer Alert Act(H.R. 4343), introduced by Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI-1) and sponsored by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY-10),” Steube noted in a press release. “However, both voted against the Amendment today, along with the rest of their Democratic colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee.”

And by doing so, they and their colleagues showed that they don’t actually care about gun violence.

“Clearly, the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee don’t care about preventing gun violence, they simply are playing politics with Americans’ Second Amendment rights,” he said.

“The fact that Democrats do not want law enforcement notified if an individual attempting to purchase a firearm fails a background check is truly troubling.”

Not that H.R. 8 would’ve made any difference regardless. Both the Parkland shooter and the Pulse Nightclub shooter passed a background check before purchasing the firearms they used to murder 17 and 49 people, respectively, on Feb. 14, 2018, and June 12, 2016.

“In rejecting this amendment, the Democrats have shown their true colors. It is clear they are not interested in preventing gun violence or stopping the illegal purchase of firearms, but rather they are only interested in limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens to advance their own political agenda.”

What’s amazing is how the increasingly radical Democrats seem willing to do almost anything to impede the constitutionally guaranteed rights of actual U.S. citizens, all while they plot to grant non-existent rights to criminal alien thieves, murderers, rapists and other reprobates.

In fact, most social media users believe that had the amendment not contained the stipulation about ICE, Democrats would have readily adopted it:

The latter Twitter user nailed it. According to the left, there’s isn’t even an illegal immigration crisis in America. Never mind that an estimated 2,000 so-called “migrants” stream across the southern border daily and oftentimes go on to commit theft, child molestation, rape, assault and even murder.

No, to the left the real crisis are those pesky actual U.S. citizens who legally own guns and use them responsibly to protect themselves and their families from the “good guys.”
