17 NYC Dems, de Blasio staffers are toasty in lavash Key West as snowstorm loomed. Guess who’s paying?

Congressional Democrats aren’t the only left-wingers with a habit of partying like it’s 1999 while the constituents they purport to care about suffer. Members of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s far-left administration reportedly did the same thing last week.

Seventeen members of the Democrat mayor’s administration set out early last week for the Straits of Florida to attend a lavish, taxpayer-funded conference at the Key West Marriott Beachside Hotel, according to the New York Post.

Their constituents meanwhile got to sit tight and fret over reports of an incoming winter storm that was slated to drench the New York area with freezing rain, snow and, in some cases, ice:

“It’s a nice little vacation that goes along with the education,” John Murphy, the former executive director of NYCERS, the city’s largest pension system, said to the New York Post.

How nice for him …

The Post notes that the attendees of the lavish affair included trustees and staff executives of NYC’s debt-laden pension system for those employed by the NYC Department of Education.

It further pointed out that the cost for the entire endeavor would be shouldered by taxpayers: “The cost of the jaunt — thousands of dollars for airfare, hotels and food — will come out of money for city-employee pensions, which are mostly funded by taxpayers.”

And which are in extreme debt, thanks to the city’s left-wing policies.

Back to the Key West Marriott Beachside Hotel where 17 members of the de Blasio administration were allowed to fritter away their time last week, just how upscale is it?

Nice.

The Post notes that the conference lasted from Tuesday through Friday and featured cocktail receptions on the beach or terrace every evening and perhaps even swims in the hotel’s pool.

But it gets worse. The only activity on day one was registration, which ended at 10:30 am, leaving de Blasio’s staffers with plenty of time to spend the rest of the day living the high life. The activities for Tuesday and Wednesday likewise ended at 1:30 pm, again leaving de Blasio’s with lots of party time.

If you feel this sounds scandalous, you’re not alone.

“Holding a conference in Key West in the middle of winter? Could this conference have been held in New York City? I submit it certainly could have,” Edward Siedle, a former Federal Trade Commission lawyer who reportedly conducts forensic investigations of pension funds, said to the Post.

William Lerach, a former class-action lawyer who reportedly represents pension funds, agreed: The people who get to go to this are getting a free vacation. Pension dollars are so precious, they can be better spent,” he said.

Social media users concurred:

Twitter user Carol Ann Schotter was correct. Like other left-wing cities such as San Francisco, NYC suffers from an abundance of homeless vagrants, especially the type who for some inexplicable reason enjoy urinating, defecating and even showering in public.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

It’s bad behavior that the city’s left-wing legislators have tacitly endorsed.

“New York City residents and visitors may see more public urination soon. That’s because the city council has decided that such activity will now draw a civil ticket, like breaking the speed limit, rather than a criminal summons,” Fox News reported back in 2017.

De Blasio’s purported utopia meanwhile continues to waste money on luxurious conferences and a number of other fruitless (and oftentimes counterproductive) endeavors, as noted by social media:
